Job Title: Attorney 1/2/3/4 (Assistant Public Defender)
Job Responsibilities:
The Attorney positions within the Public Defender Agency involve representing clients in various legal matters including adult criminal cases, parental defense, juvenile cases, and commitment matters. The attorneys are expected to handle all aspects of clients' cases from the initial stage through to trial. Responsibilities include advising clients on legal offers, filing motions, conducting evidentiary hearings, overseeing investigations, and conducting trials. Additional duties involve regular court appearances for various hearings and managing busy dockets independently while coordinating with other attorneys and staff such as office assistants, paralegals, and investigators. Travel to remote Alaskan communities may be necessary, with all travel expenses covered by the State.
Education and Experience Information:
The minimum qualifications for the Attorney positions are as follows:
- Attorney 1: Graduation from an approved school of law.
- Attorney 2: Admission to the Alaska State Bar.
- Attorney 3: Admission to the Alaska State Bar and at least two years of legal experience.
- Attorney 4: Admission to the Alaska State Bar and at least four years of legal practice.
The positions are part of the partially exempt service in accordance with AS ).
Salary Information:
Salaries for the Attorney positions vary based on experience and location. The current salary ranges for various office locations are:
- Bethel: $139, - $208, annually
- Kenai: $92,703 - $139,035 annually
- Nome: $127, - $190,476 annually
- Utqiagvik: $139, - $208, annually
Additional Information:
