Job Title: Child Support Officer II
Job Responsibilities:
Child Support Officers (CSOs) are integral to the Child Support Division (CSD) of the **Members Only** (OAG), tasked with a mission-driven role that promotes responsible parenting and ensures children receive necessary support. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting in-office investigations to locate absent parents, verify employment, and determine assets.
- Preparing legal and administrative documents to establish or enforce child support orders.
- Negotiating lump sum payments from noncustodial parents with overdue child/medical support.
- Facilitating out-of-court settlements and agreements.
- Monitoring child support cases and referring delinquent cases for enforcement actions.
- Documenting all case actions using agency tools like the Texas Child Support Enforcement System (TXCSES).
- Reviewing and maintaining child support files for accuracy in the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) repository.
- Assessing cases for eligibility for closure.
- Assisting legal staff during court proceedings when necessary.
- Researching case information using computer systems, maintaining current knowledge of child support policies, Texas Family Law, and federal regulations.
- Explaining Child Support Program policies to customers and responding to inquiries and complaints.
- Serving as a Notary Public and performing related tasks as assigned.
- Ensuring the security and confidentiality of sensitive information, complying with agency policies, and maintaining integrity.
Education and Experience Information:
- Required education includes graduation from high school or equivalent.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. However, experience in fields such as child support programs, credit collections, investigations, legal assistance, or customer service may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Skills required include interviewing and negotiating, using personal computers for word-processing and data entry, basic mathematical computations, multitasking, effective communication, sound judgment, and decision-making.
- The ability to provide excellent customer service, work cooperatively in a professional environment, and adhere to agency policies is essential.
- Additional requirements include the ability to type 35 words per minute, arrange personal transportation for business travel, work over 40 hours if needed, lift and relocate 30 lbs., and travel up to 25% (including overnight travel).
Salary Information:
- The position offers a monthly salary of $3,, with the role classified under State Job Code: 5541, Salary Admin Plan: B, Grade: 13.
The position is full-time, non-exempt, and requires adherence to a 40-hour work week. It is open to internal OAG employees, with applications submitted electronically through CAPPS Recruit.
