Job Title: Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst
Job Responsibilities:
Research:
- Perform in-depth legal, corporate, financial, and general research using resources such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, S&P Capital IQ, Mergermarket, and Lex Machina.
- Analyze external data related to current and potential clients, industries, and practices.
- Conduct research on geographical expansion and lateral hiring groups.
- Allocate time and resources among the various components of the Competitive Intelligence (CI) cycle, focusing primarily on secondary data collection and analysis.
- Participate in research projects in response to patron needs, support client pitches, and provide necessary information for responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Identify potential cross-selling and promotional opportunities for providing legal services to new and existing clients/markets.
- Monitor legal industry trends, including economic, political, and regulatory trends impacting the legal community, and assess their relevance to the firm's initiatives.
Presentation/Products:
- Use appropriate tools and technology to gather and disseminate CI deliverables through email, print reports, personal delivery, and presentations.
- Create and distribute various CI products, including analytical reports with executive summaries, client and company profiles, competitive benchmarking, and market and industry reports.
- Develop templates for client/competitor information to use regularly.
- Uphold and promote CI industry ethical standards.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a research-focused role within a law firm or other professional services environment is essential. This includes experience researching and analyzing litigation, intellectual property, companies, industries, and markets.
- Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is necessary.
- Advanced skills in using research tools such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, S&P Capital IQ, Mergermarket, and Lex Machina are required.
- Candidates must demonstrate project management skills, strong customer service skills, planning/organizational skills, and excellent oral and written communication abilities.
- The ability to be a self-starter, adapt to change, balance competing demands, and interact with all levels of management and departments is necessary.
Salary Information:
- For positions in Chicago, IL, the salary range is $80, - $128,.
- For positions in Los Angeles, CA, and Seattle, WA, the salary range is $87, - $140,.
- For positions in New York, NY; San Francisco, CA, and Silicon Valley, CA, the salary range is $91, - $146,.
- For positions in Washington, DC, the salary range is $84, - $134,.
The base salary wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. Final salary wages offered may be outside of this range based on individual circumstances. Additionally, salary wages may be only part of the total compensation package, which will also include eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
