Job Title: Legal Office Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily administrative operations of the family law office, including managing schedules, appointments, and client interactions.
- Handle client intake, including gathering necessary information and assisting with preparing initial documentation.
- Create and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are accurately filed, updated, and compliant with legal standards.
- Facilitate meeting attorneys' deadlines by keeping organized schedules and providing timely reminders.
- Prepare, proofread, and edit legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and correspondence.
- Coordinate and schedule hearings, mediations, and consultations, with efficient and timely preparation of materials to assist in meeting deadlines.
- File documents with courts and other firms as necessary, ensuring compliance with relevant legal deadlines and procedures.
- Assist attorneys in preparing for family law cases, including divorce, child custody, spousal support, adoption, and domestic violence cases.
- Maintain physical files and track office inventory.
Education and Experience Information:
- Minimum six months of experience in a law office, court, or other legal field position.
- Basic knowledge of court scheduling, filing, and communications.
- Enough knowledge of legal documents to accurately establish and maintain physical and virtual case files.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and stay on top of deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of maintaining virtual files, working with case/client management software, scanning files, creating PDFs, and editing documents.
- Proficiency in online systems such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Zoom.
Preferred Skills:
- Legal assistant/secretary or paralegal experience.
- Experience in a family law firm or court.
- Experience with legal software such as LEAP, PracticePanther, or similar tools.
Salary Information:
- Pay: - per hour, based on experience.
- Expected hours: 18-32 per week.
