Attorney - Labor & Employment

Bass Pro Shops, Springfield, Missouri is seeking a Corporate Counsel – Employment to join their legal team. The successful candidate will report directly to the General Counsel and provide legal support to all areas of Bass Pro's business, with a focus on employment and labor law. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits.

Responsibilities:

- Provide day-to-day employment law advice and counseling to HR professionals and internal business partners
- Manage all aspects of employment litigation and agency matters
- Stay current on legislative and regulatory developments related to employment law and advise HR and business partners accordingly
- Review and draft company policies and handbooks to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws
- Assist in developing and delivering training on employment law compliance and best practices
- Represent the company in employment matters before state and federal agencies
- Supervise and manage outside counsel on employment matters, including litigation
- Draft and negotiate employment-related documents such as separation agreements
- Support the existing legal team and take on new or special projects as needed
- Collaborate with other members of the legal team and internal stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives and improvements

Qualifications:

- . from an ABA accredited law school
- Admitted and in good standing in at least one state bar, with the ability to become licensed in-house counsel in Missouri
- Minimum of 6 years' experience in a dedicated employment law practice, preferably in retail or manufacturing industries
- Experience handling employment matters in court and before administrative agencies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including Title VII, FMLA, FLSA, and ADA
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to analyze complex legal issues and make sound decisions in a timely manner
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive issues
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to provide advice and counseling to business clients at all levels
- Strategic thinker with the ability to evaluate potential risks to the company
- Practical mindset and ability to balance legal risk with business impact
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent team player with adaptability and flexibility

Travel Requirements:

- Limited travel, approximately 5%

Physical Requirements:

- Regular computer work and sitting
- Occasional walking, standing, and lifting

Independent Judgment:

- Responsible for setting strategic direction, goals, and policies for the department
- Makes independent decisions on matters of significance
- Requires high degree of independent judgment and problem-solving skills
