Job Overview:
A reputable law firm in Mountain View, CA, is seeking a highly experienced Employee Benefits Attorney to support clients in various sectors, including technology, healthcare, consumer products, and real estate. This role offers the opportunity to advise clients on complex retirement plans, health and welfare benefits, executive compensation, and corporate transactions. The position is suited for a dedicated professional with extensive experience in employee benefits law who can work independently while supporting the firm's collaborative environment.

Duties:

  • Design, draft, and amend tax-favored retirement plans, including qualified retirement plans under Code § 401(a), 403(b), and 457(b)
  • Assist clients in correcting documentary, administrative, and fiduciary errors in retirement and health plans
  • Advise on the employee benefits aspects of corporate restructurings, mergers, reductions-in-force, and other transactional activities
  • Guide clients on designing and administering ERISA health and welfare plan documents
  • Provide counsel on contract and trust law matters for multiemployer plans
  • Analyze and address multiemployer pension plan withdrawal liability issues
  • Review employment-related documents, including issues related to 409A
  • Conduct due diligence and review documents for ERISA compliance in mergers and acquisitions
  • Offer insights into non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements and related tax codes (Code §§ 409A, 457, 280G)
  • Uphold strong client service standards, with excellent research, analysis, and communication skills

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in employee benefits law, specifically in designing, drafting, and advising on various retirement and health benefit plans
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on client matters while contributing to a team environment
  • Proven record of project ownership and commitment to high-quality client service

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with a strong academic record

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar in California.

Skills:

  • Expertise in retirement and health benefit plan design and compliance
  • Strong analytical and writing skills for legal research, documentation, and communication
  • Effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail
