Sr. Manager, Labor & Employment Counsel – Americas:
Job Summary:
Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Sr. Manager, Labor & Employment Counsel to join their team in the Americas region. This role will provide employment law counsel, lead key processes, projects, and plans, and work with multiple businesses and regions to develop legal solutions for complex business issues. The successful candidate will report to the VP, Labor & Employment Law and work closely with legal, HR, and business executives to proactively manage employment law risks.

Location: 4 locations available: Carlsbad, California; Raleigh, North Carolina; Waltham, Massachusetts; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Responsibilities:

• Provide day-to-day employment law advice and counsel to HR and management on a variety of subjects
• Serve as a member of the Americas employment law team and help develop, lead, drive, and implement projects to manage legal risks
• Manage US employment litigation with outside counsel
• Support and counsel on internal investigations with the Employee Relations Center of Excellence

Qualifications:

• . degree
• Licensed to practice law in one state, preferably CA, MA, PA, or NC
• 5+ years of employment law experience
• Prior experience handling and managing employment litigation

Requirements:

• 5+ years of employment law experience, including providing advice and counsel and managing employment litigation
• In-house counsel experience preferred, with experience in a global, complex, and highly matrixed company
• Prior law firm experience with employment litigation, including investigating and responding to administrative charges, responding to complaints, conducting discovery, taking depositions, drafting motions, and preparing for trial
• Proficient in providing advice and counsel in areas such as ADA reasonable accommodations, FMLA, employee terminations, wage and hour issues, and employee relations
• Strong influencing, relationship, and collaboration skills
• Ability to identify and manage legal and other types of risks
• Strong judgment and ability to analyze complex situations and develop effective solutions
• Must be able to build strong partnerships with key stakeholders
• Strong writing and communication skills
