DLA Piper is seeking a Patent Agent with 2-5 years of experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the chemical field. This role is available in multiple locations, including Boston, Philadelphia, DC, Reston, San Diego, Palo Alto, and Seattle. The ideal candidate will have a degree in chemical engineering or chemistry and be registered with the USPTO. Experience in mechanical and light electrical engineering is also preferred. In this role, the Patent Agent will be responsible for handling a variety of tasks related to intellectual property and technology, including preparing and prosecuting patent applications. The successful candidate will have experience in chemical technologies and be able to handle broader technologies in mechanical and light electrical engineering. Experience in litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, and/or trademark is preferred, but not required. Key Responsibilities: - Prepare and prosecute patent applications - Handle a variety of intellectual property and technology tasks - Conduct legal research and analysis - Communicate effectively with clients, lawyers, and third parties - Meet deadlines and expectations for work duties - Maintain positive work relationships - Comply with firm policies and practices - Engage in both physical and sedentary activity, such as working at a computer and participating in virtual conference calls Requirements: - 2-5 years of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications - Degree in chemical engineering or chemistry - Registration with the USPTO Physical Demands and Work Environment: - Sedentary work with some travel required - Hybrid work environment with some in-office expectations and remote work as appropriate Salary Information: - Expected annual pay range in California: $120,000 - $225,000 per year - Compensation offered will depend on various factors, including geographic market, skills, education, and experience - Comprehensive benefits package including medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) Application Process: - Interested candidates should apply online - Submit resume and writing samples (at least one application and one response to the USPTO in chemical and electrical or mechanical arts) - Direct applicants only, do not send materials via email - Accommodations available upon request during application process - Contact with any questions or to request an invitation to submit candidates through the firm's agency portal At DLA Piper, we value our employees and their growth and development.
