- Analyze patent and scientific papers and documents to assist patent attorneys
- Draft patent applications and responses to office actions
- Perform a wide range of duties related to patent counseling & prosecution practice
- Work closely with attorneys and other team members to provide high-quality patent services
- Utilize broad scientific knowledge in material science and/or chemical engineering to support clients in various industries

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in material science, chemical, mechanical or biomedical engineering (or related field)
- Substantive industry experience in chemical engineering or material science
- Registered US patent agent or eligible to sit for the USPTO registration exam
- Advanced degree is a plus
- Superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work well with others and possess initiative

Salary Information:

- Expected annual pay range: $125,000 - $205,000
- Final offer amount dependent on geographic location, applicable experience, and skillset of candidate

We are currently seeking a Patent Agent/Tech Advisor (Chem/Materials/Medtech) to join our busy patent counseling & prosecution practice at our law firm in Chicago. This individual should have industry experience and a degree in material science, chemical, mechanical or biomedical engineering (or a related field).

Job Description:
The main duties of this position include conducting prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses, analyzing patent and scientific papers and documents to assist patent attorneys, and drafting patent applications and responses to office actions. The ideal candidate will have superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English and possess broad scientific knowledge in material science and/or chemical engineering. An advanced degree is a plus. The individual must also be a registered US patent agent or be eligible to sit for the USPTO registration exam and meet the requirements for registration.

Salary Information:
The expected annual pay range for this position is $125,000 - $205,000. The final offer amount will depend on geographic location, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.
