Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP is seeking a highly qualified Technical Specialist to join our award-winning Intellectual Property Practice Group in either our Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco or Washington, DC office. As a Technical Specialist, you will be responsible for a large docket and will use your expertise to assist our Intellectual Property Practice Group and their clients with patent prosecution, opinion work, and litigation in the field(s) specific to your knowledge and experience. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct research, sequence management, and searching for relevant information
• Investigate inventorship issues
• Manage the intake of invention disclosures and review for patentability, novelty, and non-obviousness
• Evaluate prior art and its applicability
• Analyze scientific or technical documents, including previously published patent documents, to assess patentability, novelty, and inventiveness
• Draft new patent applications and convert provisional applications into utility applications
• Convert foreign filed applications into . applications and vice versa
• Prepare responses to . and foreign office actions
• Assist attorneys with prosecution and manage e-File filings
• Participate in interviews with USPTO examiners
• Assist with appeals to PTAB
• Meet with clients to discuss inventions and determine their commercial potential for patent claims
• Prepare clearance analyses

Requirements:
• Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a biological field, such as Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Cell Biology
• At least two (2) years of related experience in the life sciences field
• Excellent writing and research abilities, strong communication skills, and organizational skills

Education and Experience:
• An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a biological field, including for example Biochemistry or Molecular Biology or Cell Biology, or similar biologic science, with excellent academic credentials
• At least two (2) years of related experience in the field of life sciences
• Excellent writing and research abilities are a must, as well as proficiency in written and verbal communication, and strong organizational skills

Salary Information:
• Salary range for this job posting in San Francisco, CA is $80, - $120,
• Base salary wage range will be determined during the interview process and may vary based on factors such as prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors
• Final salary wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances
• Salary wages may be only part of the total compensation package, which may include eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus and participation in various benefit plans and programs
