Income Franchise Tax Senior Manager, State and Local Tax - New York, NY, United States
Job Summary:
In this role, you will be responsible for providing tax advice to clients, identifying potential changes in tax policy, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. You will also be involved in marketing, networking, and business development within your area of expertise and specialization. Additionally, you will work with Core Tax Partners, Directors, and Senior Managers to provide State and Local Tax (SALT) expertise to clients.
Responsibilities:
- Research complex tax situations and utilize appropriate sources to provide detailed reports of findings
- Build relationships with Department of Tax/Department of Revenue personnel
- Conduct detailed reviews of tax returns and respond to notices from state taxing authorities
- Provide assistance with tax exams and support
- Draft tax memorandums, opinions, and other documentation on various tax issues
- Apply all applicable SALT sub-specialties and work with other STS professionals as needed
- Develop tax planning strategies and manage engagements
- Assist in developing consultative selling strategies
- Manage client expectations and build strong relationships
- Represent clients before tax authorities on contested issues
- Utilize tax software and research databases in completing tasks
- Provide technical client service to multi-state companies and negotiate settlements and voluntary disclosure agreements
- Prepare tax accrual workpapers and understand industry standards and firm policies related to FAS 109 and FIN48
- Review tax implications and develop alternative courses of action for clients
- Research potential tax strategies and suggest marketing approaches for new client acquisition
- Supervise STS SALT Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates on engagements and review work product
- Train tax professionals on relevant tax software
- Evaluate performance and provide feedback for professional development
- Act as a Career Advisor to STS SALT Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or other relevant field required
- Master's degree in Accounting/Taxation or . preferred
- 8+ years of prior experience in state and local/multistate tax required
- Prior experience supervising tax professionals and preparing/reviewing tax provisions preferred
- CPA certification or other relevant certification preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word, and exposure to tax software and research tools preferred
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Proven ability to manage a team and delegate tasks effectively
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels
- Executive presence and ability to act as primary ,000 NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $95,000 - $250,000
