No Training, Sexist Owner. I relocated to Colorado for this job. I was offered an hourly rate which I accepted. The owner insisted I be at the job no later than a certain date so I made arrangements to leave. Upon arriving, the owner pushed my start date back two weeks and seemed extremely disorganized. In the meantime, she set me up on the pay app where I noticed that my hourly rate was less than what she had initially offered me without any type of explanation.
After my first day, it was immediately obvious that the other employees avoid the owner for anything. Both front desk staff advised me to "stay away" as the best advice for dealing with her. She will ask you to complete a task and then forget about what she asked of you and yell at you and make degrading comments when you ask for guidance. You are expected to know everything almost immediately and are punished for wanting to learn. One day the owner asked me to review two forms, one with completed information and one blank form, and write down the discrepancies so that I could call the client and acquire the missing information. As I was talking to the client and requesting said information, the owner proceeded to yell at me that the information was already there while I was on the phone with the client. I am sure that the client could hear her. Extremely unprofessional. She asked me to ensure that we had certain documents and so when I asked her which documents we needed, she started making disparaging remarks like our conversation never happened. As one of only two males in the office, the treatment I received versus the majority female staff was very noticeable. I have heard her scream and yell at her husband on the phone in her office. It is very apparent that she dislikes males and she will treat you differently. In only my second week here, the owner had been gone for the day but came in towards the end of the day. While myself and an attorney were discussing a client, the owner proceeded to interrupt and tell me that I was "sloppy as s" for not wearing my mask. Never mind that I was wearing it and that she wasn't even in the office and so wouldn't have known regardless. In addition, after a week and a half the owner told me that she was thinking of reducing my hours to four days a week! I strongly recommend you seek a job elsewhere. It is a very toxic work environment and you will be berated for wanting to ask questions and learn as well as for completing tasks that the owner requests. You may have somewhat better luck as a female but even then I would look for jobs elsewhere. The pay and benefits are not great. Avoid, avoid, avoid this awful company and its sexist owner.
