Management at this firm needs to be more present and strict with their staff. Being laid back isn't a bad thing, but if employees are running the law firm it will become too chaotic.

This firm offered a good work environment that was nice to work with. Most of the employees I got along with and others kept to themselves which was fine. Upper management wasn't around much but when they were they were always helpful.

As I mentioned before, management wasn't always present when we needed them. Some staff would do whatever they please and management just didn't seem to care. The place felt like a zoo sometimes.

Practice Areas

Milbank LLP practices law in the following areas and works with its clients to provide the best possible legal solutions.

Hiring Criteria

Milbank LLP follows the set of hiring criteria outlined below.

As the firm continues to grow within the US and across Europe and Asia, Milbank Tweed is on a constant look-out for legal and non-legal professionals with diverse backgrounds and who demonstrate a high level of creativity, determination, enthusiasm, intelligence, and leadership. The firm has an extremely stringent hiring process and considers pervious work experience and an established passion for the law.

Pro bono

In the latter half of the 1930s, Milbank Tweed's name partner Harrison Tweed wrote "providing competent legal services for all is an obligation of the bar," and today, after more than 75 years, public service still remains an obligation that the firm is proud to fulfill.

Milbank Tweed is one of the few US firms where each and every attorney of the firm, regardless of status or practice area, is required to dedicate a minimum of 20 hours every year to pro bono work. Further, the firm's unique Fellowship program enables its first-year and fourth-year associates to work for three months at full pay at a pro bono legal services provider of their choice.

Ranked sixth for its pro bono commitment on the American Lawyer's elite 2011 A-List, Milbank Tweed believes, "Pro bono isn't just what we do; it is part of who we are and has been for more than a century."

Summer associate program

The Summer Associate Program at Milbank Tweed offers law students an excellent opportunity to participate in intellectually stimulating legal work on actual cases alongside the firm's notable attorneys.

This program is offered at the New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC, offices of the firm, and the summer associates are encouraged to take full advantage of the ten-week program by participating in the weekly CLE sessions and the other training conducted at the firm along with 15 mandatory assignments involving challenging deals and cases. Some of these associates are also offered the opportunity to spend a part of their summer at one of Milbank Tweed's foreign offices on the basis of their interest in working abroad, language skills, and the specific needs of the firm's non-US offices.

In a nutshell, Milbank Tweed's summer associate program provides the participating law students with a real view of what life is like at the firm as a full-time attorney by assigning them responsibilities similar to those given to the firm's junior associates.

Working for the Milbank LLP

The one thing that you can be sure of when you work at Milbank Tweed is that you will never be bored with your work. The firm is known for the complex legal matters that it handles and prides itself on the fact that "if it isn't complicated, it isn't worthy of a Milbank Tweed attorney."

The firm's attorneys routinely make the headlines by representing clients like Apple, Astra Zeneca, Goldman Sachs, the Lehman Brothers Creditors Committee, and the New York Stock Exchange. Milbank Tweed are also the preferred attorneys for some of the most high-profile, closed-door representations, precedent-setting deals, and litigation involving commercial bank loans, equity firms, and hedge funds. And all this is accomplished within a culture of collaboration; Milbank Tweed attorneys work in sync with partners in small, efficient teams on transactions worth billions and litigation for an impressive roster of clients.
