Advice to law firm management:
Step back and let your associates work. They've been hired to do a job and will do it well if you just let them.

Pros:
It's nice that there is always plenty of free coffee and food available for associates. There are also some other perks that I find enjoyable.

Cons:
The leadership here spends a lot of time micromanaging associates to the detriment of the firm. They can be overbearing and nitpicky at times, which is incredibly frustrating for me.

Advice to law firm management:
Remove the black box from bonuses, have a better system for training greener associates, have more iterative check-ins beyond mid-year and bonus-review

Pros:
Getting to work with Fortune 500 companies in a smaller firm, friendly fellow lawyers and staff, free coffee, breakfast every Wednesday

Cons:
Associates have no knowledge of how bonuses and promotions work, no real sense of camaraderie with co-workers outside of work

The Summer Associate Program is demanding at Neal Gerber Eisenberg. That's because we are looking for our future colleagues and partners. From the very first day, you will be immersed in the culture and work of the firm.
