Job Title: Attorney IV

Job Responsibilities:
The Attorney IV position involves supervising professional legal services of significant complexity and performing other assigned legal services. The role includes supervising and reviewing the work of staff attorneys serving as Attorney I, II, and III. Key responsibilities include providing representation for indigent persons in various legal matters, such as criminal charges, probation issues, juvenile delinquency, dependency matters, mental health commitments, extradition cases, criminal appeals, and post-conviction relief. The attorney is expected to apply legal knowledge and training, analyze and organize facts and evidence, render clear and effective written reports and oral arguments, and present and argue cases in court.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited law school and have admission to the State Bar of Arizona. A minimum of ten years of relevant legal experience is required, along with significant trial or litigation experience. A valid Arizona driver's license and the ability to be covered by county insurance are also necessary. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience that provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Preference may be given to candidates who speak Spanish and/or have governmental experience or experience in criminal, appellate, and/or dependency case law.

Salary Information:
The anticipated hiring range for the Attorney IV position is $75,000 to $110,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications. The position also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including membership in the Arizona State Retirement System.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The Attorney IV should have exceptional knowledge of principles and practices of law, legal procedures and administrative proceedings, methods and practices of pleadings, judicial procedures, and the rules of evidence. Considerable skill is required in applying legal knowledge, determining alternative courses of action, analyzing and organizing facts, rendering logical reports and arguments, and handling unanticipated problems smoothly. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, follow instructions, and communicate effectively in English is essential.

Work Environment:
The work is primarily performed under general supervision in a typical office or court setting with appropriate climate controls.

Physical Requirements:
The position requires physical abilities such as lifting, manual dexterity, and effective communication. It involves light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently and lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds. The role requires a good deal of walking, standing, or sitting most of the time. Mental application involves memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills.
