Job Title: Attorney I

Job Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of an Attorney I include initiating, engaging in, and defending litigation. This role involves performing comprehensive legal research and reviewing and preparing legal documents. The Attorney I is tasked with rendering legal advice to clients and conducting factual investigations. The role requires the ability to analyze, appraise, and organize facts, evidence, and precedents, and to render logical, clear, and effective written reports and oral arguments. The attorney is expected to determine alternative courses of action and present and argue cases in court, handling unanticipated problems with ease.

Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for the Attorney I position, candidates must have graduated from an accredited law school and gained admission to the State Bar of Arizona. Additionally, candidates must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and have the ability to be covered by county insurance. Preference may be given to individuals who speak Spanish, have governmental experience, or have experience in criminal, appellate, and/or dependency case law.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Candidates for the Attorney I position should have a working knowledge of the principles and practices of law, legal procedures, administrative proceedings, methods and practices of pleadings, judicial procedures, and the rules of evidence. They should be familiar with the principles, methods, materials, practices, and references utilized in legal research. Good skill in applying legal knowledge and training on behalf of public entities is essential. Additionally, candidates should have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public, follow written and verbal instructions, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Work Environment:
The work environment for the Attorney I position is primarily under general supervision in a typical office or court setting with appropriate climate controls.

Physical Requirements:
The position requires the ability to lift, manual dexterity, and effective communication skills. It involves light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds. The role may require a good deal of walking, standing, or sitting most of the time. Mental application involves utilizing memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills.

Salary Information:
The anticipated hiring range for the Attorney I position is between $75,000 and $110,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications. The position also includes a comprehensive benefits package, which includes membership in the Arizona State Retirement System.
