Job Title: IP Research Information Scientist
Full Time
Job Responsibilities:
As an IP Research Information Scientist, you will be tasked with managing legal risks and supporting company businesses by working closely with other functions of the company Research Center (ARC) and the Legal IP department. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with other IP researchers to assess third-party patents in relation to company products by conducting Freedom to Operate (FTO) and patentability searches.
- Developing search strategies in collaboration with the IP legal department, organizing results, and communicating analyses to IP attorneys and other relevant stakeholders.
- Providing patent support for company businesses, including technology and patent portfolio assessment and landscaping.
- Working with cross-functional teams to evaluate threats to company products.
- Monitoring key competitors using secondary research databases, resources, and technologies for legal projects.
- Collaborating with ARC information teams to compile, analyze, and present research deliverables to support decision-making across the company’s business.
- Consulting on multifaceted projects to determine information needs, provide information solutions, and apply appropriate data science methodologies and strategies to solve problems.
- Integrating the latest IP tools, including AI technologies where appropriate, to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of IP research, data management, knowledge sharing, and insights generation.
Education and Experience Information:
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in science or engineering.
- Experience in patent and/or scientific literature searching in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, healthcare, or related industry, with a strong interest in developing this skillset.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience assessing competitor products and IP.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience analyzing competitive intelligence and developing corresponding IP strategy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Registered patent agent with the USPTO.
- Experience working in-house in a highly matrixed environment.
- Experience in the medical device or other healthcare businesses, especially involving digital/software solutions.
- Ability to understand applicable FDA regulations and company operating procedures, processes, policies, and tasks.
- Proven ability to perform successfully in cross-functional teams.
Salary Information:
The base pay for this position ranges from $75, to $150,. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
Additional Information:
- The position involves operations and business support within the Office of Ethics and Compliance.
- Work locations include **Members Only** Park, Alameda, Chicago, Plymouth, St. Paul, and Santa Clara.
- Standard work shift with 5% travel required.
- Significant work activities involve continuous sitting for prolonged periods and extensive keyboard use.
