Jefferies, a global investment banking and securities firm, is seeking a Head of Tax Counsel and Advisory to join their team in New York. This individual will lead the function to support various front office business units and assist with research and planning. The salary for this position will range from $225,000 to $275,000 per year. The ideal candidate will have a JD with at least five years of relevant experience at a major law firm, with additional industry experience and/or an LLM in Taxation being a plus. This is a full-time, director level position with a comprehensive benefits package offered.

Responsibilities:

- Lead the Tax Counsel and Advisory group to support front office business units.
- Assist with domestic and international planning.
- Analyze and structure transactions, draft legal documentation and memoranda, and advise on reputational risk.
- Advise senior business leaders on tax matters.
- Assist with transfer pricing strategy, planning, and defense.
- Analyze new products and business lines for tax issues.
- Advise on information reporting and withholding matters.
- Advise on tax matters related to joint ventures and other investments.
- Stay updated on new tax legislation and guidance.
- Advise on IRS audit matters.
- Advise on compensation and benefits tax matters.
- Assist with ad-hoc projects as needed.

Qualifications:

- JD with at least five years of relevant experience at a major law firm.
- Additional industry experience and/or an LLM in Taxation is a plus.
- Experience in taxation of financial products, . international and corporate tax.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with various business units and corporate departments.
