Job Title: Staff Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney will be responsible for assisting in directing the legal operations of the office, ensuring the quality and consistency of all legal decisions rendered by the office, and coordinating the daily assignments of Hearing Officers. They will perform legal reviews and other administrative duties, adjudicate all types of administrative hearings as necessary, and maintain procedures to ensure that cases are heard and decisions rendered in a timely manner. Additionally, the Staff Attorney will manage productivity, timeliness, and staffing needs through effective procedures and systems, handle special assignments and projects, convey agency policy to the public accurately, and ensure cooperative interaction between administrative and legal personnel. The Staff Attorney will also act as a legal advisor to administrative personnel.
Education and Experience Information:
Minimum qualifications include admission to the New York State Bar and either one year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar or six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne. Incumbents must remain members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment. For Assignment Level II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar in the areas of law related to the assignment. For Assignment Level III, candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar in the areas of law related to the assignment.
Preferred Skills:
Candidates should possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, excellent writing, legal research, and analytical skills, and strong organizational, management, and training skills. Supervisory experience is preferred, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is $103, annually.
