Opportunity

- Seeking highly motivated and experienced complex litigation trial attorney
- Handle high exposure litigation from inception through trial in state and federal courts in greater New York City area
- Must have proven track record of trial success defending corporations and businesses in various tort cases
- Partner and collaborate with other in-house law offices to deliver optimal case resolution and trial strategies
- Opportunities to parachute in to complex cases for trial in New York and surrounding states
- Position covers metro NY region with expectation to work out of one of our NY offices in New York City, Tarrytown, or Melville

Responsibilities

- Independently handle complex litigation and large exposure cases from inception through trial/resolution
- Partner and collaborate with other staff counsel offices for optimal case resolution/trial strategies
- Consult with counsel colleagues nationally/regionally for optimal case resolution/trial strategies
- Utilize technology and automation in practice of law, including at trial
- Advise management on alternatives, outcomes, and legal actions with potential impact on company business and operations
- Proactively identify and communicate exposure and risk to insured clients and claim partners
- Conduct research of legal principles and precedents within area of expertise
- Draft substantive pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents
- Build and maintain strong internal and external client relationships
- Take leadership role in collaborating with claim and business partners, resolving issues, and achieving results
- Mentor and coach other attorneys and paralegals/staff
- Provide internal and external training, seminars, and legal updates to insured clients and claim partners
- Review invoices from experts, recommend adjustments, and approve within authority level
- Provide in-depth analysis and quality reporting to insured clients and claim partners
- Initiate special projects and identify opportunities to support office goals/business needs
- Travel as required within given jurisdiction, including handling litigation and trying high exposure cases in other jurisdictions
- Effectively delegate, coach, develop, and leverage employees' unique talents when leading and providing direction and oversight on cases
- Strong and persuasive oral advocacy, negotiation, and writing skills
- Exceptional legal research and writing skills
- Exceptional legal acumen, including in-depth knowledge of law, bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, and litigation process
- Strong technical knowledge in practice area(s) and ability to comprehend, assimilate, and communicate complex information
- Strong leadership through mentoring and influencing skills
- In-depth business and company knowledge and commitment to customer service
- Exhibits highest level of professionalism and ethical conduct
- Sound decision-maker and problem solver
- Other duties as assigned

Ideal Candidate

- 15 years of prior legal experience preferred, including recent jury trials to verdict in high exposure matters
- Prior experience at Senior Associate/Partner level preferred
- Licensed to practice law in New York, and preferably also in CT and/or NJ to support tri-state metro region
- Prior experience in mentoring others, leading litigation teams, and providing case oversight and direction setting

Must Have

- Juris Doctorate from accredited law school
- Minimum of 15 years of prior legal experience, including recent jury trials to verdict in high exposure matters
- Active license to practice law in New York State
- Regularly attend trials and depositions, and able to transport to meetings
- Board Certification as Civil Trial Attorney, if applicable
