Key Responsibilities:
- Read transcripts of case.
- Take notes from transcripts and prepare a transcript summary for use in drafting appeal.
- Discern legal issues from the transcript and/or client questionnaire and conduct necessary research.
- Draft briefs for criminal and Family Court appeals.
- Correspond with clients, including those who are incarcerated, and trial attorneys.
- Prepare stipulation to the record on appeal and gather physical documents for appendix.
- Meet regularly with supervisor to discuss case status.
- Keep abreast of recent developments in criminal and Family law.
- Dispose of a satisfactory number of cases per calendar year.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Employment Standards:
- Active membership in the State Bar of New York.
- Experience as an attorney in the practice of criminal or Family Court appeals preferred; or a combination of training, education and experience that is equivalent.
- Computer proficiency, including word processing and legal research skills.
Additional Requirements:
- Possession of a valid New York State Driver’s License and access to a registered, insured vehicle available for use during working hours, or demonstrated capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
