Job Title: Staff Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney/Agency Attorney III at the **Members Only** is tasked with several responsibilities within the Hearings Division. This role involves adjudicating a variety of administrative hearings, where individuals or businesses contest charges related to violations of City laws concerning health, safety, and environmental protection. The Staff Attorney must assist in directing the legal operations of the office, which includes ensuring the quality and consistency of all legal decisions, coordinating daily assignments of Judicial Hearing Officers, and performing legal reviews along with other administrative duties. They are responsible for maintaining procedures to ensure that cases are heard and decisions are rendered in a timely manner. Additionally, the role involves managing productivity, timeliness, and staffing needs through effective use of databases or other systems. The Staff Attorney will handle special assignments and projects, including oral and written presentations, and convey agency policy accurately to the public. Ensuring cooperative interaction between the office's administrative and legal personnel, the Staff Attorney also acts as a legal advisor to the administrative personnel.

Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for the position of Staff Attorney/Agency Attorney III, candidates must be admitted to the New York State Bar and meet one of the following criteria:
1. Possess one year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar.
2. Have six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).

Candidates must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing throughout their employment. Additionally, to be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates need one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience after admission to the bar, in areas related to the assignment. For Assignment Level III, candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience after admission to the bar, in relevant areas of law.

Preferred Skills:
The ideal candidate should have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, excellent writing, legal research, and analytical skills, along with strong organizational, management, and training capabilities. Supervisory experience is preferred, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint is desired.

Salary Information:
The salary range for this full-time position is between $89, and $103,.

Additional Information:
The City of New York offers potential eligibility for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs. New York City Residency is not a requirement for this position.
