Job Responsibilities
The Agency Attorney Interne at the organization is tasked with several responsibilities within the Law Department's Housing Litigation division. The core duties involve conducting administrative termination of tenancy proceedings on grounds such as non-desirability, which includes violence against organization employees, breach of the organization's rules and regulations, illegal assignment or transfer of possession of an apartment, and misrepresentation. The attorney will also represent the organization in remaining family member and rent grievances brought by public housing residents and Section 8 participants. Key responsibilities include:

1. Identifying key issues in cases promptly and resolving them under supervision, with some latitude for independent judgment.
2. Preparing and litigating administrative hearings and grievances, which involve preparing charges, requesting investigations, negotiating settlements, and representing the organization at hearings.
3. Responding to routine inquiries from managers, opposing counsel, and Borough management on assigned cases.
4. Conducting legal research on complex cases and preparing memoranda.
5. Maintaining computer records in the Case Management System and preparing memos and other documents regarding case dispositions.
6. Keeping all case files, evidence, and computer files organized, and preparing memos regarding the progress of cases and case dispositions.
7. Representing the organization in Applicant Appeal actions.
8. Representing the organization in Small Claims Court actions.

The selected candidate must maintain confidentiality regarding all organization proceedings.

Education and Experience Information
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections or ) or must have admission to the New York State Bar.

Preferred Skills:
1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
2. Experience in litigation.
3. Knowledge and background in Housing Law, HUD Regulations, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure.
4. Ability to work independently with minimal direction and be a self-starter.

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is $80, to $85,.

Candidates must provide a resume and cover letter that includes bar admission date(s) (month and year), two writing samples representing their own efforts, three references with their professional association and the circumstances under which they became familiar with the candidate’s professional skills, a copy of the law school transcript, and current and/or minimum salary requirements.
