Job Title: Staff Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney/Agency Attorney III is responsible for adjudicating various types of administrative hearings. The role involves assisting in the direction of the legal operations within the office, ensuring the quality and consistency of all legal decisions, and coordinating daily assignments of Judicial Hearing Officers. The attorney is expected to perform legal reviews and other administrative duties, maintaining procedures to ensure timely case hearings and decision rendering. Additionally, the role requires managing productivity, timeliness, and staffing needs through effective systems, handling special assignments and projects, and conveying agency policies accurately to the public. The Staff Attorney also acts as a legal advisor to the office’s administrative personnel and ensures cooperative interaction between administrative and legal staff.
Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar, or six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
- Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of employment.
Assignment Level Requirements:
- For Assignment Level II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to bar admission in related areas of law.
- For Assignment Level III, candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to bar admission in related areas of law.
Preferred Skills:
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent writing, legal research, and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational, management, and training skills.
- Supervisory experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Salary Information:
The salary range for the Staff Attorney position is $92, – $106,.
