Job Title: Senior Practice Economics Manager
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Practice Economics Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing various pricing and project management functions within the law firm. This includes business management, profitability, and operational efficiency for assigned practice groups. The manager will work closely with the practice management team, attorneys, and other colleagues to ensure these objectives are met. Key responsibilities include:
- Directing practice group-specific business management areas, including pricing matters and analysis of personnel, attorney, clients, and practice group performance.
- Developing client/matter and attorney profitability reports and practice revenue forecasts for subsequent analysis and troubleshooting.
- Preparing practice group financials and materials for quarterly meetings.
- Identifying practice group-specific opportunities for improvement and innovation in matter management, business operations, infrastructure, methodologies, and other areas of business performance; developing solutions and plans for corresponding action.
- Modeling lateral partner candidates.
- Monitoring current trends and best practices in legal and professional services management; communicating the impact of new innovations, developments, and regulations.
- Participating in fostering a culture that is team-oriented and committed to professional excellence; ensuring that all functional resources are in alignment.
- Completing special projects as assigned and inclined.
Essential Functions of Job:
- Compiling quarterly practice group financial decks.
- Conducting recurring and ad hoc financial analysis, modeling, and reporting.
- Identifying trends and proposing solutions where needed related to practice management.
- Developing and presenting educational materials related to practice management.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications:
- 5-8 years of law firm or other professional services experience in an accounting, pricing, client, or practice management role.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to project a polished, professional image, and communicate comfortably and confidently with all levels of personnel.
- Excellent organizational skills and astute attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment.
- Robust oral and written communication capabilities.
- Displays strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong business acumen and analytical skills, with the ability to develop and successfully execute comprehensive project and operational plans from broadly stated objectives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with emphasis in areas of finance, cost, and pricing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with legal accounting systems (preferably Aderant).
- Knowledge of law firm billing processes and practices.
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree
Computer/Software Knowledge
Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote, and Outlook
Preferred: Experience with legal accounting systems (preferably Aderant). SQL or other database programming knowledge. Power BI or Tableau experience
Work Environment
- The current policy is hybrid, requiring work in the office a minimum of 3 days per week and working from home the rest of the week (subject to change).
- Overtime may be required as the job duties demand.
Salary Information:
California: The salary range for this position is $180,000 to $240,000 per year.
