Associate General Counsel - Operations & Experience - Remote
Job Responsibilities
The Associate General Counsel for Operations & Experience is responsible for providing legal advice and counsel to the business operations of the organization. This individual will be tasked with analyzing complex legal and operational issues and processes across various topics including digital innovation impacting consumers, employers, providers, prospects, and brokers. Responsibilities also extend to website and mobile applications, accessibility requirements, electronic signatures and delivery, artificial intelligence/machine learning and blockchain, email, texting, social media (including cookies and pixels), and other established or emerging technologies. Core operations such as ID cards, billing, communications, eligibility, and service are also under the purview of this role.
Key duties include:
- Advising on the implementation of federal and/or state legal/regulatory requirements impacting the health care industry, particularly in specified topics, and addressing the resulting operational complexities.
- Identifying privacy, legal, and/or regulatory considerations for further analysis.
- Advising on risk management, consumer/customer inquiries, and/or service issues.
- Evaluating appropriate legal courses of action to meet business objectives and advising senior legal and business leaders accordingly.
Education and Experience Information
- Juris Doctorate degree.
- Current and active license to practice law in at least one . jurisdiction.
- A minimum of 6 years of professional legal experience in a law firm or corporate environment.
- At least 3 years of experience in the Health Plan sector.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications include:
- Experience in technology areas such as consumer experience, consumer protection laws, privacy, email, electronic communications, accessibility, digital marketing, or artificial intelligence.
- Background in the health insurance and/or managed care industry.
- Experience in legal and regulatory matters impacting the health care industry, particularly in areas such as ACA, ADA, Sections 504 and 508 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act, ERISA, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, COPPA, UETA/E-Sign.
- Background in state and/or federal privacy issues affecting the health care industry.
- Ability to evaluate and determine appropriate legal courses of action to meet business unit needs.
- Proven success in building and maintaining rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external contacts.
- Proven success in collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environment with excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
Salary Information
The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually, based on full-time employment. Compensation is determined by several factors, including local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to salary, UnitedHealth Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase, and 401k contribution, subject to eligibility requirements.
