Job Title: Commercial Counsel, YouTube Business Legal
Job Responsibilities:
- Negotiate, draft, and review intellectual property licenses with a focus on digital content distribution, emphasizing linear television distribution agreements for YouTube TV.
- Handle a variety of technology, content, and marketing agreements.
- Negotiate, draft, and review distribution agreements related to YouTube’s major media subscription and content offerings.
- Advise executive management, business clients, finance, product, and other colleagues on legal issues, agreement structure, negotiation strategies, and company policies.
- Provide legal guidance to business development, strategy, product management, and marketing teams on compliance with applicable license agreements and United States regulatory matters.
- Support contractual analysis and diligence across existing agreements to aid product feature launches and enablement.
Education and Experience Information:
- Minimum qualifications include a
- A minimum of 7 years of attorney-level experience in-house, at a law firm, or in government.
- Experience with film and television distribution, intellectual property/agreement law, and agreement drafting.
- Must be admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law in the state where the position is located.
- Preferred qualifications include experience in advising, drafting, and negotiating commercial transactions and content license agreements in the broadcast or cable television industry.
- Experience with emerging forms of content distribution, such as direct-to-consumer and advertiser-supported content distribution.
- Familiarity with licensing various types of content, including film, television, and sports rights.
- Understanding of United States communications law and the ability to escalate and present key issues to management.
Salary Information:
- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $239,000-$337,000, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits.
- Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
The role is part of the Global Media Partnerships subteam, concentrating on negotiating, drafting, and analyzing a variety of film, television, and sports digital distribution licenses for YouTube and YouTube TV. The position includes a wide cross-section of transactional and commercial legal work, including marketing, advertising, and other major media agreements, in support of YouTube’s Global Media Partnerships team. The role also involves counseling business development executives and leading on agreement interpretational issues, including risk analysis and product advertisement.
