Intellectual Property Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
As an Intellectual Property Counsel at the company, you will have a significant role that allows you to engage with some of the most innovative minds globally. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and prosecuting patent applications on a global scale.
- Handling opposition, inter partes review (IPR), and providing litigation-related support in intellectual property (IP) disputes.
- Acting as a direct contact and interacting with business clients, outside counsel, and international colleagues.
- Providing IP services in areas such as dispute management, transaction services, compliance, and advice.
- Working independently on matters of significant complexity or importance.
- Offering legal services to medium to large complex businesses.
- Leading transactional processes for IP transactions of significant impact and/or complexity.
- Managing IP litigation and other forms of dispute resolution for significant matters and formulating strategies for dispute resolution.
- Acting as a subject matter expert in some areas of IP law with responsibilities beyond a single business unit or country.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for this role, the company requires a minimum of:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start).
- A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Three years of law firm and/or in-house IP experience in a private, public, government, or military environment.
- Current membership in a state bar, in good standing.
- Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Additional qualifications that could enhance success in this role include:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university in physics, optics, electrical engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Substantial experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications globally.
- Experience with IP litigation and other patent disputes.
- Admission to practice in Minnesota or eligibility for admission within six months of employment.
- Strong academic credentials.
- Business acumen and the ability to provide legal advice in the context of strategic business initiatives and goals.
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate and relate at all levels of the organization, including business line leaders, regional heads, and senior management.
- A results-oriented approach, personal and organizational accountability, and a collegial work style.
- High energy and dedication to responsive client service.
Salary Information:
For US applicants, the expected compensation range for this position is $188,251 - $230,084, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. Additionally, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits such as Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences, and Retirement Benefits.
Work Environment:
The position is Hybrid Eligible, allowing for some remote work but requiring travel to the company’s center in Maplewood, MN, at least three days per week. Travel may include up to 10% domestic/international. Relocation assistance is authorized.
