JOB TITLE: Litigation Paralegal

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY: The Litigation Paralegal is responsible for providing high-level paralegal and litigation support to designated attorneys and the law firm. This role involves assisting attorneys in managing complex litigation matters, including case management and trial preparation. The position requires designing and implementing eDiscovery databases to organize and analyze large volumes of case data, developing data management strategies, assisting with courtroom technology, providing user support and training, and coordinating with technology vendors. The role also entails performing traditional paralegal tasks while taking on an information technology role, requiring advanced technical skills and the ability to train and implement skills necessary for database and litigation support applications. Additionally, the Litigation Paralegal provides backup support to family law attorneys, with family law experience being advantageous.

Job Responsibilities

- Provide service to clients and attorneys through document handling, phone calls, paperwork, filing, editing, and other administrative tasks.
- Offer specific secretarial support for attorneys across various legal specialties.
- Gather relevant information and documents under direction or compile data from diverse sources.
- Conduct a wide variety of typing assignments and required research.
- Prepare documents and correspondence, contracts, briefs, policies, and pleadings in legal terminology and format.
- Establish, maintain, process, and oversee files, correspondence, databases, records, certificates, and other documents.
- Identify and prepare deposition exhibits, create privilege logs, review and analyze deposition summaries, and organize documents using eDiscovery.
- Prepare trial exhibits, transcripts, videos, and create trial notebooks.
- Draft objections and prepare subpoenas.
- Provide follow-up with appropriate departments, under direction, to ensure compliance with agreements and requests for information.
- Monitor existing paperwork and documents, meet deadlines, and ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Support the law firm’s strong relationship legal culture through ongoing client contact, quality client customer service, and superior legal knowledge.
- Schedule appointments and perform duties related to maintaining schedules, including coordinating meetings, conferences, travel, and lodging arrangements.
- Demonstrate flexibility to attend local and out-of-town trials.
- Lead, guide, and train staff performing related work as appropriate.
- Maintain a positive work environment with attorneys, paralegals, clients, vendors, and co-workers.
- Promote and maintain the goodwill and reputation of the law firm and uphold the highest level of professional conduct and confidentiality.
- Provide backup support when other staff members are out of the office.
- Meet attendance and punctuality standards.
- Effectively work and cooperate with attorneys, clients, and co-workers.
- Follow the direction of the supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Information

Minimum Qualifications for Consideration

- Paralegal certification or minimum certification required.
- 3-5 years of litigation paralegal experience.
- Proficient knowledge of MS Word, Excel, document management systems, and general office equipment.
- Family law experience is a plus.
- Trial Director experience is a plus.
- TABS experience is a plus.
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Strong litigation paralegal background.
- Ability to create, compose, proof, and edit correspondence.
- Excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation, form, and style.
- Working knowledge of court rules, filing procedures, and the litigation process.
- Ability to work with and manage electronic filings.
- Ability to complete large volumes of document production within legal deadlines.
- Familiarity with docketing and calendaring systems for future client events.
- Strong proofreading skills to ensure accuracy before attorney review.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage a fast-paced environment, multiple tasks, and work requirements.
- Ability to use good judgment and discretion regarding ongoing cases.
- Understanding the significance of file maintenance and keeping files up to date for easy access.
- Strong communication skills with attorneys, clients, and other staff members.
- High energy, quick thinking, with strong follow-through.
- Dependability regarding punctuality and attendance.
- Ability to stay focused throughout the day on tasks assigned by attorneys with little supervision.
- Ability to work as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

This work is sedentary and requires the following physical activities:

- Sitting for long periods; occasional bending, climbing stairs, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing, and visual acuity.
- Occasionally lifting (up to 25 pounds of paper supplies or minor office equipment).
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities are required, including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust and focus.
