Legal Aid Chicago is seeking a Supervisory Attorney for their Medical-Legal Partnerships Group. This full-time position offers a hybrid work environment and requires regular on-site rotation at the University of Chicago hospital and occasional travel to court, administrative agencies, and outreach events. The position reports to the Chief Strategy Officer and offers a salary range of $84,500 - $94,500. Legal Aid Chicago is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and is an eligible employer for the federal public service loan forgiveness program. Responsibilities:
- Overall management of Recovery Legal Care, including partner relationships and staffing
- Supervise attorneys and paralegals, providing guidance and support for case strategy, reviewing written work, and conducting performance evaluations
- Maintain a small caseload, representing clients in administrative agencies and state and federal courts
- Work collaboratively with co-supervisory attorney to foster shared practices and learning within the MLP group
- Serve as a subject matter expert on health-related legal issues affecting the client population
- Engage in systemic advocacy and outreach efforts
- Conduct training and presentations for partners, funders, and stakeholders
- Represent Legal Aid Chicago on community task forces and committees
- Support fundraising and media relations
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- . degree and licensed to practice law in Illinois or licensed in another state with the ability to waive into the Illinois bar
- Minimum of six years of legal practice, with prior experience in medical-legal partnerships preferred
- Experience supervising legal work and mentoring and training less experienced attorneys
- Strong project management, organizational skills, flexibility, and sound judgment
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues from diverse backgrounds
- Highly collegial, with enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience working with people living in poverty and people with disabilities
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and self-care
- Commitment to meeting with and supporting patients recovering from violent injuries
