Job Title: Chief Financial Officer
Job Responsibilities:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the law firm is tasked with the comprehensive management of all business accounting functions. This role requires overseeing the Accounting Department to ensure it operates both efficiently and effectively. Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and supervising monthly and year-end financial reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Managing various financial operations of the firm, including billing, accounts receivable and payable, and cash management.
- Preparing the firm's operating and capital budgets as necessary.
- Ensuring the accurate and timely preparation and filing of firm tax returns and tax reporting.
- Overseeing the accurate and timely payment of payroll and other tax liabilities.
- Identifying and implementing solutions to billing and guideline issues.
- Conducting analysis and proposing standard billing rates.
- Assisting attorneys in determining agreed rates and alternative fee arrangements.
- Providing guidance and support to attorneys for the collection of accounts receivable and managing write-offs.
- Negotiating and maintaining contracts related to the firm’s workers' compensation insurance, property insurance, and casualty insurance.
- Supervising all aspects of the accounting department staff, which includes evaluating staff performance, identifying tasks, delegating workflow, providing training, and assisting with escalated issues.
- Preparing equity member year-end earnings calculations and reports.
- Preparing Member Units evaluation materials.
- Participating in Management Committee meetings and contributing to overall firm management.
- Performing additional functions as requested by the Chairman and the Management Committee.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
- The CFO operates under the immediate supervision of the Chairman of the law firm.
- The CFO is responsible for supervising the accounting department staff.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- The position requires approximately 10+ years of progressively responsible work experience within legal or other professional service organizations, which provides the necessary experience in managing business accounting operations.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is required.
- The candidate must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Prior experience in managing large teams is essential.

- Strong knowledge of and ability to apply accounting theories and practices.
- Mathematical and analytical skills are necessary to resolve complex accounting issues and maintain thorough accounting records.

- Interpersonal skills are crucial for maintaining effective relationships with members, associates, clients, and staff, both in person and over the phone. This includes managing staff and facilitating individual and group meetings concerning the accounting department's operations.
- The ability to occasionally travel as necessary to manage the business operations of the law office.
- Strong organizational skills are required to prioritize numerous tasks and complete them within time constraints.
- Proficiency in using database software, spreadsheets, and word processing software (such as Microsoft Office Suite) and equipment to complete analysis and distribute various reports.
