Job Title: Internship Paralegal Student, Summer

NJOPD offers a hands-on experience for paralegal students to work with attorneys, investigators, and staff in providing legal representation to indigent individuals. This is a volunteer internship opportunity available year-round and statewide.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with investigations
- Conducting client communication
- Conducting research and writing
- Preparing for trials
- Advocating for clients
- Attending court proceedings and training programs

- Social work students for specialized units such as Recovery Court and Mental Health Advocacy
To Apply:
- Submit a cover letter explaining your interest in the internship, practice areas of interest, geographic preference or limitations, and availability
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and must be received between December 15th and April 15th for summer internships
Application Process:
- Applicants will be interviewed by regional office and/or Internship Coordinator
- Complete confidentiality and ethics paperwork
- Screening and approval prior to internship offer
About NJOPD:
- Provides first class legal representation to indigent individuals at both trial and appellate levels
- Represents individuals charged with criminal offenses, parents with children removed due to allegations of abuse and neglect, children who have been removed, individuals involuntarily committed to State psychiatric facilities, individuals facing Megan’s Law tier classification, and individuals seeking post-conviction relief
- Specialized units include Recovery Court, Mental Health Advocacy, Special Hearings Unit, and Conviction Integrity Unit
- Also represents clients in Forensic Science Unit, Recovery Court, and Intensive Supervision Program matters.
