Job Title: Software Engineer - Legal Prompt Engineer
Job Responsibilities:
As a Software Engineer - Legal Prompt Engineer, the primary responsibilities include orchestrating LLM-driven experiences that enhance customer satisfaction. The role involves developing code that interacts with state-of-the-art large language models (LLMs), writing, testing, and iterating prose prompts that leverage legal domain knowledge to ensure responses are accurate, legally sound, and contextually appropriate. Additionally, the engineer is responsible for developing code that interacts with data sources and services, such as APIs and SQL databases, and collaborating with legal professionals and internal teams at the company to gather and understand requirements. The role also involves integrating language models into multi-step systems, assessing their performance, and making necessary modifications.
Education and Experience Information:
To be eligible for the role of Software Engineer - Legal Prompt Engineer, candidates should possess legal domain expertise, which can include experience in legal practice, holding a JD in a non-traditional legal career path, or having paralegal or other legal industry experience. Candidates should have 3 to 4 years of production-level experience in software engineering, preferably on an engineering/product team at a startup. Proficiency in C# / Python is required, though strong experience in other programming languages can compensate for low skills in C# / Python. Proficiency with APIs and SQL is a major plus. Additionally, candidates should have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, creative and clear writing skills, and experience using large language models through code, such as those from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Cohere, and/or open-source models like Llama and Mistral.
Salary Information:

The base compensation range for this role varies across locations, and for eligible US locations, it is set between $70,000 - $130,000. The role may also be eligible for an annual bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors, including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
