STS SALT Senior Manager, State and Local Taxation - Milwaukee, WI or Other Major Cities in the Midwest and East Coast

Position Summary:

The State and Local Tax (SALT) Senior Manager is responsible for providing clients with tax advice and guidance related to state and local tax (SALT) issues. In this role, the Senior Manager will work closely with clients to understand their business objectives and recommend the best course of action to comply with tax regulations and minimize tax liabilities. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for marketing, networking, and business development in their area of expertise and keeping up to date with changes in tax policies.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct research on complex tax issues and provide recommendations for clients
- Review tax returns and identify significant state tax issues
- Assist with tax audits and respond to notices from state taxing authorities
- Prepare tax memorandums and opinions on various tax issues
- Collaborate with other professionals within the firm to provide SALT expertise to clients
- Represent clients before tax authorities on contested issues
- Utilize tax software and research tools to complete assigned tasks
- Provide technical client service to multi-state companies and negotiate settlements and agreements
- Prepare tax accrual workpapers and understand industry standards and firm policies related to taxes
- Review tax implications and develop alternative courses of action for clients
- Assist with researching potential tax strategies and suggest marketing approaches for new client acquisition
- Supervise and train tax professionals on assigned engagements
- Evaluate performance and provide feedback to team members
- Act as a career advisor to team members
- Other duties as required

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or other relevant field required
- Master's degree in Accounting/Taxation or . preferred
- CPA certification or other relevant certification preferred
- 8+ years of experience in state and local/multistate taxation
- Prior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis
- Experience with tax provisions, corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word
- Familiarity with tax applications and research tools
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to meet project deadlines and work independently or within a team
- Capacity to build and maintain relationships with clients and colleagues
