Job Title: Paralegal - Benefits Access for Immigrants

Job Responsibilities:
The paralegal will be responsible for managing an active caseload and working directly with attorneys and other paralegals to address client needs related to immigrant access to public benefits, including food assistance, health insurance, and cash benefits. The role involves supporting the Benefits Access for Immigrants Los Angeles (BAILA) team in daily tasks related to running the BAILA network, which includes monitoring referrals and inquiries made to the network to ensure timely response and high-quality service. Additional duties include updating the website with relevant resources and information, assisting in the creation of outreach materials, participating in network meetings, and helping to monitor grant deliverables. The paralegal will also assist in performing outreach in the community and with partners, and give presentations on behalf of the Network. The position is non-exempt and temporary, reporting to the Supervising Attorney.

Education and Experience Information:
Qualified candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- Possess a Paralegal Certificate.
- Hold a . or . degree with one year of experience working in a law office or other legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney, with a letter certifying the experience.
- Have a high school degree with three years of experience working in a law office or other legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney, with a letter certifying the experience. This experience and training must have been completed no later than December 31, 2003.

Paralegal Trainee applicants are also welcome and should:
- Hold a . or . degree; or
- Be currently enrolled in a paralegal certificate or degree program.

Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to conduct research, problem-solve, and work independently with moderate supervision. Strong oral and written communication skills, patience, and sensitivity to work with people in crisis situations are essential.

Bonus Points:
Candidates with the following experiences or skills will have an advantage:
- Experience working in a legal aid setting.
- At least one year of legal experience working with low-income individuals and families.
- General poverty law knowledge in the areas of immigration and public benefits.
- Bilingual in Spanish, due to the high number of Spanish-speaking residents in the community.

Salary Information:
The organization offers a competitive salary range of $47,000 to $58,000, based on experience. Additional benefits include a 35-hour workweek, hybrid work schedule, 15 paid holidays, 2 to 5 weeks of vacation depending on seniority, and 12 days of sick leave. Exempt employees are eligible for compensatory time in accordance with company policy. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance with a variety of plan options, basic life and AD&D insurance, long-term disability insurance, and a 403(b) retirement plan with options for voluntary contributions. A monthly bilingual supplement is available for qualified employees.
