Job Responsibilities:
The CPA (Paralegal) position at the law firm involves a comprehensive range of estate administration duties, supporting the Financial Services and Capital Markets business unit. The responsibilities include assisting attorneys with estate administration, funding post-death irrevocable trusts, preparing legal documents, managing probate processes, and filing estate-related tax returns. Key tasks entail preparing various tax returns such as Estate Tax Returns and Fiduciary Income Tax Returns, maintaining financial records of trusts, performing trust accounting, and auditing accounts. The role also requires maintaining general ledger accounts, reconciling broker statements, preparing payables and bank deposits, and obtaining and reconciling 1099 and K-1 statements. Additionally, the paralegal is involved in irrevocable trust funding and administration post-death, probate administration including drafting probate pleadings, and providing expert accounting guidance and best practices to team members. The role emphasizes maintaining close contact with clients and financial advisors, meeting an annual billable hour requirement of 1600 hours, developing technical proficiency in database use and management, and independently organizing and managing files or delegating tasks to other business professionals.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree along with CPA certification and license. A minimum of 10 years of experience in Trusts & Estates is preferred. The candidate should possess excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills and demonstrate proven success in a fast-paced, continually changing environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, familiarity with tax and trust accounting software, and experience with document database programs and/or software are necessary. Significant client case management experience and exceptional attention to detail are also required. The candidate should be highly organized, able to prioritize workflow, manage projects effectively, and perform with little or no supervision within established time limits and ongoing deadlines.
