Job Title: Billing Appeals Specialist

Job Responsibilities:
The Billing Appeals Specialist will play a crucial role within the accounting department, acting as a key member of the appeals team. The primary responsibilities include providing comprehensive support to attorneys on all appeal-related questions. The Specialist will work with limited supervision and will coordinate closely with attorneys and staff to ensure that appeals are submitted accurately and on time. This role involves a partnership with the billing department to thoroughly understand the details of each appeal and to ensure adherence to best practices and billing guidelines. Key duties include:

- Managing the appeals process for insurance carriers’ invoices by:
- Drafting narratives for attorney approval to optimize the success rate of appeals.
- Managing deadlines for all appeals to ensure maximum recovery from clients.
- Sending exception reports and timely follow-up reminders for appeal language as needed.
- Maintaining an appeal log to monitor the status of invoices and outstanding accounts receivables.
- Acting as a point of communication for the Finance Department with in-house attorneys, addressing questions regarding invoice issues and other appeal process aspects.
- Collaborating with the Appeals Team, its Director, and Billing & Collections to identify opportunities to minimize reductions in line with the Outside Counsel Guidelines. Keeping informed of changes to insurance carriers’ Outside Counsel Guidelines and assessing their impact on existing processes and procedures.
- Participating in process improvement by evaluating the current protocols of the firm, addressing questions and issues arising in daily activities, and identifying opportunities for process improvements and enhancements to current training to prevent future issues.
- Promoting a high level of customer service by ensuring excellent service is provided to the firm’s Principals and clients on both an individual and team basis.

Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in legal billing/appeals is necessary.
- Knowledge of Aderant and BillBlast is considered a plus.
- Strong skills in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word, are needed.
- The candidate should be highly organized with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- An ability to learn and adapt in an ever-changing environment is essential.

Salary Information:
For New York, the expected salary range for this position is between and per hour. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
