Job Title: Sr. Claims Specialist - Financial Institutions

Job Responsibilities:
The Sr. Claims Specialist for Financial Institutions at the company is tasked with managing a broad range of Management Liability Claims. This includes handling claims related to Bankers Professional Liability (BPL), Investment Advisors, Private Equity Errors and Omissions (E&O)/D&O, and Insurance Company Professional Liability (ICPL). Experience with Transactional Liability claims such as Representations and Warranty, Judgment Preservation & Contingent Risk is considered advantageous. The specialist is responsible for investigating, analyzing, and evaluating coverage liability and damages in accordance with best practices, and maintaining appropriate documentation.

Additional responsibilities include providing technical advice, training, and guidance to junior team members and internal business partners. The specialist reviews financial institutions claims to determine the nature of the loss, the coverage provided, and the scope of the claim, guiding strategic decisions regarding settlement or disposition of claims. Developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners is crucial for this role.

The specialist is also responsible for escalating coverage issues and recommending outside coverage counsel assignments when necessary. They formulate claims and litigation strategies, assign, direct, and manage outside counsel, and are tasked with managing costs, including those associated with coverage counsel and litigation. Collaboration with the Litigation Management and Vendor Management teams ensures cost management and the development and enhancement of panel counsel.

Fostering relationships and extensive communication with senior executives, brokers, reinsurers, actuaries, underwriters, insureds, and auditors is essential. The specialist supports underwriting inquiries, information requests, and drafts reports on claim trends, data analysis, and risk assessments. They lead and participate in presentations and discussions with underwriters and insureds on large losses and claim trends, participate in claim audits, and contribute to special projects and department initiatives.

The role also involves identifying liability and coverage trends and issues with both individual and portfolio impact, formulating processes and strategies for handling such claims, and ensuring accurate and consistent claims management across impacted underwriting segments and lines of business.

Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a Juris Doctorate. Candidates must have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience handling Management Liability claims. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, meet deadlines, and successfully perform in a changing and sometimes challenging work environment is essential. High exposure/complex claim exposure evaluation skills, as well as excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, are necessary.

Key Skills & Abilities:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of Management Liability claims management experience.
- Possession of required states’ claims adjusters licenses or the ability to obtain such licenses within 90-120 days of hiring (preferred states include NY, CA, FL, and/or TX, among others).
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and management skills or experience practicing law as well as claims management.
- Ability to influence and collaborate at all organizational levels, both internally and externally, and resolve complex, disputed claims.
- Analytical thinker capable of driving results using all facets of the legal and claims processes.
- Understanding of and ability to balance immediate claim issues with broader portfolio and customer service impacts of coverage disputes and issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively deal with conflicting expectations, differing opinions, and multiple viewpoints.
- Experience handling management liability claims involving a wide variety of loss scenarios, as well as reporting and presenting on the same to senior management.
- In-depth knowledge of claims, litigation, arbitration, and trial processes.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and negotiating skills.
- Technical knowledge, skills, and training within the field, including complex coverage analysis, financial institutions knowledge, confidence in coverage evaluation and reserving, solid negotiation and settlement skills, and supervisory perspective.
- Familiarity with KPI, data, and metrics is a plus.
