Job Title: Claims Counsel - Management Liability
Job Responsibilities:
- Handle Management Liability Claims, including Employment Practices Liability, Directors and Officers Liability, Fiduciary Liability, and Crime claims for Private and Non-Profit businesses in accordance with Claim Guidelines.
- Analyze, investigate, negotiate, and resolve claims of varying severity within authority limits.
- Select, direct, and manage defense counsel, including budget approvals.
- Develop litigation and file disposition strategies, attend mediations, settlement conferences, and trials.
- Verify and analyze applicable coverage for reported claims.
- Follow operational policies and procedures, including compliance, regulatory, performance, and customer service standards.
- Prepare reports, such as Large Loss Reports, reflecting loss development, potential/actual financial exposure, coverage issues, and claim and recovery strategies.
- Maintain appropriate contact with stakeholders throughout the claim file's life.
- Identify and address recovery, contribution, and Special Investigative Unit (SIU) opportunities.
- Set accurate and timely loss/expense reserves in compliance with Claim Guidelines.
- Draft correspondence, including coverage letters to stakeholders as required.
- Support business partners on claim and underwriting-related issues and marketing meetings as needed.
- Maintain resident/nonresident adjuster licenses as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Juris Doctorate
- Properly licensed, registered, or authorized, and in good standing, to practice law in the jurisdiction of work.
- 3-5 years of management liability claim experience, including handling employment liability practices, directors and officers’ liability, and fiduciary liability coverages preferred. Applicable legal experience will also be considered.
- Excellent coverage analysis skills with experience in drafting coverage position correspondence.
- Experience handling litigated files and directing defense counsel.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Ability to travel, averaging one day a month.
- Licensure as required by respective state(s).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize, multi-task, and prioritize work.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze data, utilize sound judgment, draw conclusions, and make supported decisions.
- Authorization to work in the United States without requiring, now or in the future, VISA sponsorship for employment purposes.
Salary Information:
- The annual gross salary range is $106,400 – $168,100. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base salary for this position.
- Total compensation includes base salary, performance-based bonus opportunities, 401(K) match, profit-sharing opportunities, and more.
- Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as candidate qualifications, skills, competencies, and geographical location related to this specific role.
