Job Title: Sr. Claims Coverage Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The Sr. Claims Coverage Counsel will manage complex coverage and extra contractual litigation of high legal complexity, specifically in General Liability and Construction Defect, to protect the interests of the company. The attorney will oversee all aspects of the litigation process representing the company, providing legal counsel and insights in partnership with corporate law, underwriting, and claims organizations on policy language, new product offerings, and complex coverage interpretations. The responsibilities include assigning cases to outside counsel, evaluating their performance, developing and implementing litigation strategies, and providing legal advice to the Claims and Underwriting teams. While the attorney may attend trials, they will not be the attorney of record.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor degree
- 6 or more years of experience as an attorney with a concentration in insurance coverage
- Active member of a State Bar
- Experience with Microsoft Products
- Knowledge of Lexis or Westlaw
Preferred Qualifications:
- Litigation experience in the insurance industry, claims, or underwriting
- Experience with General Liability and Construction Defect claims
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and significant knowledge of Lexis or Westlaw
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
- In-depth knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance legal and regulatory environment
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to a changing environment
- Experience in a work environment that required collaboration across work groups
- Ability to effectively present information to LOB manager, claimants, and customers
Salary Information:
The proposed salary range for the Sr. Claims Coverage Counsel position is between $121, and $199,, with eligibility for a short-term incentive bonus set at 15%. Compensation is influenced by factors such as office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. Additional rewards may include short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases.
