The Office of the Attorney General of Texas is seeking a licensed attorney for the position of Assistant Attorney General I-III in the Consumer Protection Division. The position is based in Austin and offers a competitive salary range of $7, - $8, per month. The Division is responsible for protecting Texas consumers and the legitimate business community through investigations, civil lawsuits, and educating the public on potential scams. The successful candidate will work on the Special Enforcement Team and handle high-profile cases, including issuing Civil Investigative Demands and conducting pre-suit depositions. This is a highly collaborative work environment where lawyers manage their own dockets and have the opportunity to first or second chair a case from start to finish.

Experience:
- Minimum of one year of full-time experience for AAG II and two years for AAG III
- Experience in Texas Business Organizations Code, Texas Trust Code, consumer protection, and commercial litigation preferred
- Trial experience in litigation involving Texas Business Organizations Code, Texas Trust Code, charitable trusts, consumer protection, and commercial litigation preferred

Job Description:
- Responsible for protecting Texas consumers and the legitimate business community through investigations, civil lawsuits, and educating the public on potential scams
- Highly collaborative work environment where lawyers manage their own dockets and have the opportunity to first or second chair a case from start to finish
- Work on the Special Enforcement Team and handle high-profile cases, including issuing Civil Investigative Demands and conducting pre-suit depositions
- Provide legal advice, counsel, and assistance to clients and management on factual and legal issues
- Participate in administrative and evidentiary hearings and in the discovery process
- Perform legal research and investigations; report findings and conclusions
- Prepare legal documents, including petitions, motions, pleadings, orders, briefs, discovery, and memoranda
- Analyze complex factual and legal issues and develop evidence through witness interviews, depositions, and other discovery
- Represent the Office of the Attorney General and other state agencies before state and federal district and appellate courts
- Advise management on factual and legal issues
- Assist in drafting bills and amendments for legislative consideration
- Provide technical guidance to less tenured staff and may help train others
- Maintain knowledge of legal principles and practices relevant to Consumer Protection
- Testify at hearings, trials, and legislative meetings
- Perform related work as assigned

Qualifications:
- Minimum education required: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree (.)
- Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas
- Must be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and eligible to practice law in Texas by start date
- Knowledge of law and legal principles, practices, and proceedings; and of state and federal laws, regulations, and rules
- Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
- Skill in effective oral and written communication
- Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
- Skill in legal research, writing, and analysis; in conducting investigations; in mediation and negotiations; in using reasoning and logic; in identifying and solving complex problems; in prioritizing workloads; in using judgment to identify courses of action; and in the use of a computer and applicable software

- Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
- Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%

Preferred Qualifications:
- Focus on consumer protection and/or commercial litigation subjects in education
- Experience using electronic document review platforms including Relativity and programs such as Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and Word
- Trial experience in litigation involving Texas Business Organizations Code, Texas Trust Code, charitable trusts, consumer protection, and commercial litigation
- Knowledge of law and legal principles and practices relevant to Texas Business Organizations Code, Texas Trust Code, Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and relevant consumer protection statutes, including state and federal privacy laws
- Knowledge of Probate laws
- Skills in legal research, writing, and analysis; experience with document review platforms
- Abilities to work collaboratively and within a larger organization
