Job Title: Litigation Attorney - Tort/Employment

Job Responsibilities:
The Litigation Attorney in the Civil Division of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office will be responsible for litigating cases in both federal and state courts, including appeals. The attorney will represent **Members Only** and its employees in lawsuits filed under the Washington Law against Discrimination, Title VII of the federal Civil Rights Act, and claims under 42 USC §1983. The position involves defending against lawsuits from current and former employees, as well as members of the public alleging personal injury or civil rights violations.

Key responsibilities include:
- Providing legal advice to various County departments, including **Members Only** Metro, Department of Adult & Juvenile Detention, and the Sheriff's Office.
- Engaging in complex, non-tort litigation in collaboration with attorneys across the Civil Division.
- Developing multi-layered strategies using negotiation, policy, legislation, litigation, and appellate practice to address legal issues where case law is uncertain.
- Emphasizing motions practice and appeals, with a focus on state and federal constitutional law, statutory interpretation, and developing common law.
- Committing to equity and social justice work, including ongoing cultural competence development.
- Participating in robust onboarding, ongoing training, and support provided by the Litigation Section.
- Committing to work in the Litigation Section for a minimum of two years before transitioning to another section.

Education and Experience Information:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of litigation experience, with a preference for experience in employment law.
- Excellent legal research and writing skills, with appellate experience considered a plus.
- Outstanding analytical abilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to race, equity, and social justice, including personal cultural humility/competence development.
- Desire to litigate in state and federal courts.

Special Requirements:
- Must be a member in good standing with the Washington State Bar.
- Must submit to a criminal history check.
- Must be a . citizen or a lawful permanent resident, as required by RCW and and Article VI of the Washington Constitution.

Salary Information:
The annual salary for the Litigation Attorney - Tort/Employment position ranges from $118,237 to $174,107, commensurate with 3 to 20 years of experience.

Additional Information:
- The Civil Division is located in the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle, offering a hybrid work schedule with telecommuting options.
- Successful candidates new to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office may be required to work in-office three days every week for the first six months.
