Job Title: Staff Attorney, Democracy: Voting Rights Litigation Team

Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney will be responsible for litigating cases in state and federal courts, primarily across the organization’s five focus states. This encompasses working and co-counseling with private attorneys, conducting extensive research and factual investigations, writing motions, briefs, and other court filings, and conducting discovery, court appearances, and oral arguments. The attorney will lead advocacy and litigation efforts, including legal research, drafting memoranda, and complaints. They will identify and develop new cases and litigation strategies to advance voting rights, working collaboratively with community groups, coalitions, and individuals. The attorney will also represent the Democracy - Voting Rights Litigation Team on relevant task forces and coalitions, collaborate extensively across departments within the organization, and engage in public speaking to articulate the organization’s policies and programs on voting rights issues. Additional duties may be assigned as required or reasonably within the scope of the role.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must possess a and have at least one year of federal court civil litigation or comparable experience post-law school. Membership in good standing of at least one state bar in the United States is required, with a preference for membership in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, or Washington, .

Salary Information:
This is an exempt role with a minimum starting salary of $73, annually, based on legal experience post-law school. The salary structure is as follows:
- Staff Attorney I (1-3 years out of law school): $73,
- Staff Attorney II (4-5 years out of law school): $84,
- Senior Staff Attorney I (6 & 7 years out of law school): $97,
- Senior Staff Attorney II (8 & 9 years out of law school): $112,
- Senior Staff Attorney III (10 & 11 years out of law school): $129,
- Senior Staff IV (12+ years out of law school): $148,

The Staff Attorney role offers options for local remote work or telework, with the expectation to attend work-related activities at the organization’s offices or in the states where the organization operates. The position reports to a Senior Supervising Attorney in the Democracy: Voting Rights department and is represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild.
