Job Title: Equal Protection Initiative (EPI) Counsel (2 Positions)

Job Responsibilities:
The Equal Protection Initiative (EPI) Counsel positions are integral roles within the organization, housed in the Strategic Initiatives Department. The primary responsibilities of the EPI Counsel include:

- Assisting with both litigation and non-litigation advocacy to safeguard, expand, and deepen race-conscious and race-neutral means to remove and remediate barriers to opportunity for Black people in the economy, educational systems, and other areas.
- Conducting legal and factual research in areas such as racial justice, equal protection, civil rights, educational equity, economic justice, health equity, and the First Amendment.
- Participating in or building national, state, and local coalitions, partnerships, and task forces aimed at advancing race-conscious and race-neutral means of removing and remediating barriers that deny Black people equal opportunities.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams of organization attorneys, organizers, policy advocates, communications specialists, and researchers to further national, state, and local efforts to advance race-conscious and race-neutral means to remove and remediate barriers of opportunity for Black people.
- Working collaboratively to write, publish, and disseminate research and policy briefs, fact sheets, talking points, infographics, reports, and other documents to educate target audiences, including legislators, agency officials, stakeholders, and the general public, about efforts to advance race-conscious and race-neutral means to remove and remediate barriers of opportunity for Black people, and proposing recommendations for change.
- Speaking to media and the public regarding the Equal Protection Initiative’s work and mission.
- Performing other duties as requested by the Managers of the Equal Protection Initiative, the Director of Strategic Initiatives, or other members of the organization's Senior Leadership Team.

Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor degree is required.
- Four or more years of experience in litigation and/or policy reform or advocacy at the federal, state, or local level in areas such as racial justice, equal protection, civil rights, educational equity, economic justice, health equity, and the First Amendment.
- Admission to the New York, Georgia, or District of Columbia Bar (or eligibility to waive in) is necessary.
- Excellent research, writing, and public speaking skills are essential.
- Experience working with communities and/or individuals directly impacted by racially discriminatory educational and/or economic systems is preferred.
- A demonstrated commitment to civil rights and racial justice is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and think and plan strategically, including an ability to lead and manage complex litigation, advocacy, and policy reform efforts involving multiple issues and parties.
- Ability to work independently and on teams.
- Ability to travel regularly.

Salary Information:
The salary range for this position varies by location:
- New York: $120,000 - $181,000
- Washington DC: $115,000 - $173,500
- Atlanta: $104,000 - $157,000
