Position:
Paralegal – Paralegal (Korean Speaking) – Asian Pacific Islander (API) Community Outreach Project/Stay Housed LA
Job Responsibilities:
- Work in conjunction with the staff attorneys to provide legal assistance.
- Interview and counsel clients on various legal issues, ensuring they receive the necessary guidance and support.
- Draft legal documents, including pleadings such as unlawful detainer answers, declarations, and discovery.
- Participate in clinics and other community outreach projects to extend services to the community.
- Collaborate effectively as part of a team, including working with other attorneys, support staff, and students.
- Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the department’s initiatives.
Education and Experience Information:
- A four (4) year college degree or a Paralegal Certificate is required.
- One (1) year of relevant work or volunteer experience is preferred.
- Bilingual proficiency in Korean is required to effectively communicate with clients.
- Experience in providing assistance to low-income or homeless individuals, including conducting interviews, is preferred.
- Experience working with diverse poverty law issues is preferred.
- Some knowledge of landlord-tenant law is preferred.
- Candidates should be self-motivated, take initiative, and possess the ability to learn quickly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Candidates should be organized and capable of handling a high-volume caseload.
- Flexibility in job duties is essential to adapt to the needs of the department.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is $52,000 to $56, annually, depending on experience (DOE), with excellent benefits provided.
Additional Information:
- The position is part of a special program created using designated funds, with no assurance of ongoing funding or employment beyond 12 months.
- A nine-month probationary period will be required for the successful candidate.
