Job Title
Assistant Counsel

Job Responsibilities
The Assistant Counsel will work within the Office of the General Counsel at the organization, providing legal assistance and counsel on various agency matters including personnel, legal records, and other administrative functions. The key responsibilities include:
- Analyzing and summarizing cases and information relevant to constitutional provisions, statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and opinions.
- Serving as the agency's point of contact for external oversight and legal entities, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Office of Employee Relations (OER), and the Attorney General’s Office.
- Representing the agency in legal proceedings, administrative hearings, and internal investigations.
- Conducting legal research and drafting guidance and legal opinions on state and federal law.
- Providing counsel and assistance with discovery holds, records management, and Freedom of Information Law requests.
- Performing additional duties related to personnel, financial, legal records, and other administrative matters for the Office of General Counsel.

Education and Experience Information
- Admission to the New York State Bar and a member in good standing.
- A minimum of two (2) years post-admission trial and/or hearing experience before either courts of record or in administrative proceedings.
- A commitment to public service and strong research/writing skills are essential.

Salary Information
The salary range for the Assistant Counsel position is from $93,659 to $118,388 annually.
