Tax Manager – US Business Process Solutions - Managed Payroll Services
Job Responsibilities:
As a Tax Manager specializing in US Business Process Solutions for Managed Payroll Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering payroll tax services to clients and managing the overall service delivery. Key responsibilities include:
- Configuring payroll wage codes to ensure accurate application of employer and employee taxes and social security.
- Analyzing payroll tax notices and preparing Powers of Attorney.
- Liaising with Federal and State Agencies and registering employers for payroll taxes.
- Preparing and filing payroll tax returns, including Forms W-2, Forms 1099, and state equivalents.
- Performing regular audits to identify and resolve compliance issues, avoiding delays in filings, and monitoring penalties/notices.
- Collaborating with clients to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll tax liabilities.
- Reconciling federal and state withholding taxes and unemployment taxes on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Applying for identification numbers, such as FEIN and SUI, when entering new jurisdictions.
- Evaluating and improving payroll tax processes for increased efficiency and accuracy.
- Identifying opportunities for automation and leading implementation efforts related to payroll taxes.
- Coordinating year-end efforts to ensure accurate W-2s and other annual tax filings.
- Ensuring proper setup and maintenance of local withholding codes in the payroll tax system.
- Performing quarterly reconciliation and data analysis, and reconciling payroll taxes at the employee level.
- Leading Year-End processing for accurate W-2 and communicating directly with internal/external customers regarding tax inquiries.
- Researching and resolving payroll tax inquiries and ensuring tax-related updates in the payroll system are fully reviewed and understood.
- Performing internal audits as requested and identifying and resolving issues while driving change for related improvements.
- Setting up the required operating protocols for the service offering.
Education and Experience Information:
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in payroll tax processing, preferably in a multi-state US environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, human resources, international business, finance, accounting, or other liberal arts majors.
- One of the following active accreditations obtained, in process, or willing and able to obtain:
- Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA.
- If not CPA eligible:
- Enrolled Agent.
- Juris Doctor (JD).
- Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2 – 3 days per week.
- Ability to travel up to 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
Preferred:
- Proficiency with payroll software (., ADP, Workday, Paycom) and Microsoft Excel.
- An aptitude for working as part of a dynamic team with diverse members.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work and manage multiple assignments in a team environment.
- Strong analytical, consultative, quantitative, and project management skills.
- Executive presence, and excellent communication (verbal & written) and presentation skills with an aptitude for working as part of a global team.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Attention to detail, self-starter, and deadline-oriented.
Salary Information:
The wage range for this role considers a variety of factors including skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $103,320 to $235,170. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, and it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
Additional Information:
Candidates may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including individual and organizational performance.
