The MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) is seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Senior Associate Counsel to join their General Counsel department. This individual will provide legal guidance and support for MTA's procurement, IT, and other user departments, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
The successful candidate will possess expertise in procurement, contracting, and other commercial legal matters, with the ability to proactively identify and mitigate potential legal and business risks. They will also work closely with MTA's procurement, IT, and other departments to facilitate efficient and cost-effective procurement processes.
The Senior Associate Counsel will have the opportunity to work on complex and high-profile matters, including contract negotiations and enterprise-wide agreements for goods, services, and public works. They will also provide legal support in other areas, such as legislation, corporate issues, and litigation.
This role requires a self-starter with excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will have at least 6-10 years of experience in procurement, corporate, or transactional legal matters, with a Juris Doctor degree and a New York State Bar Admission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and counsel to MTA procurement, IT, and other user departments on complex matters, including legal and business risks.
- Review, analyze, and negotiate various procurement contracts and licenses.
- Offer legal and business advice for enterprise-wide contract negotiations.
- Proactively advise on changes in laws and regulations that may impact MTA's operations.
- Coach less experienced attorneys and assist in achieving MTA Legal Department's goals.
- Prioritize and manage multiple projects and clients in a fast-paced environment.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and vendors.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- New York State Bar Admission and active license to practice law.
- 6-10 years of experience in procurement, corporate, or transactional legal matters.
- Knowledge of IT-related sourcing, NY law, and NYS Public procurement law preferred.
- Excellent academic credentials and proven track record in contract negotiations.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure with a high level of initiative.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
