Job Title: Assistant Corporation Counsel, Administrative Law & Regulatory Litigation
Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Administrative Law & Regulatory Litigation Division is responsible for handling State and Federal court proceedings involving various City agencies. These agencies administer and enforce laws in areas such as public health, land use, licensing, transportation, public housing, and building and fire codes. The position involves defending Article 78 proceedings and state and federal court actions challenging enforcement against unlicensed cannabis establishments. The responsibilities include bringing civil actions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and prosecuting code violators in New York Criminal Court. The Assistant Corporation Counsel will independently manage a caseload, prepare pleadings and affidavits, research and write memoranda of law, conduct necessary discovery, make court appearances to argue motions, and, when appropriate, take cases to trial. The role also involves prosecuting violations and misdemeanors in Criminal Court.
Education and Experience Information:
Applicants must be admitted to practice in the State of New York and have at least two years of experience following graduation from an ABA-approved law school. Candidates should possess superior organizational, time-management, research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. A demonstrated record of independently litigating matters in the courts is required. While prior regulatory or municipal law experience is preferred, it is not mandatory.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is $87, to $175,.
