Job Title: Senior Trusts & Estates Tax Paralegal

Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Trusts & Estates Tax Paralegal is responsible for managing a comprehensive range of estate administration matters. This includes assisting the law firm's attorneys in administering estates, funding post-death irrevocable trusts, preparing necessary documents, and filing estate-related tax returns. The role involves client case management and requires the preparation of various tax returns, such as Estate Tax Returns and Fiduciary Income Tax Returns. The paralegal must maintain financial records of trusts, perform trust accounting, audit accounts, and manage general ledger accounts. Additional duties include reconciling broker statements, preparing payables and bank deposits, and obtaining and reconciling 1099 and K-1 statements. The position encompasses irrevocable trust funding and administration post-death, probate administration, including drafting probate pleadings, and maintaining close personal contact with clients and financial advisors. The paralegal is expected to meet an annual billable hour requirement of 1600 hours, develop technical proficiency in database use and management, conduct internet/electronic research, and maintain project folders and electronic files. The role also involves independently organizing and managing files or delegating similar tasks to appropriate business professionals and supervising them. Compliance with law firm policies and sustaining attention to detail and quality of work are essential.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a minimum of a two-year degree, with a bachelor's degree or a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred. However, significant, substantive related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. The candidate should have 10 or more years of Trusts & Estates experience. Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills are necessary. The candidate should have proven success in a fast-paced, continually changing environment and the ability to prioritize with excellent time management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with tax and trust accounting software are required. Experience with document database programs and/or software is also beneficial. The candidate should possess significant client case management experience, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to interact effectively and professionally, providing exceptional service both internally and externally. A highly organized individual capable of prioritizing workflow and managing projects is needed. The ability to perform effectively with minimal supervision and within established time limits and ongoing deadlines is crucial.
